We are all born creative. Creativity is inherently what makes us human. If you solve a problem, you are creative. If you turn your idea into something that you can share with others all the better. Sometimes you feel compelled to create at the worst possible times. But, if you put it off too long you lose grip on the ideas and lose inspiration. So, save what you can whenever you can. I really hate losing out on putting things out there because I have far too many things in my head to express.

A lot of them are ideas for fiction. Some are game ideas. Only about a handful, though, I feel are exceptional. Still, even when I do capture the better ideas of the bunch, it’s tough for me to sort out how to get them in print. So many ideas in my mind aren’t being realized. I think that’s true of most people. Ideas are the basis of everything in creation, so naturally they are powerful.

Ideas are like links in a chain, too, because a lot of them can go together. But, they can stand on their own, too. Truly good ideas can be studied in depth for years. Ideas have forms far beyond the words, definitions, and concepts we often associate with them. I daresay that the more foundational ideas in our universe are infinitely complex. I don’t mean that they are necessarily hard to understand. I mean that ideas have many layers and some are probably infinite.

Also, we will never run out of ideas. Many people are just too lazy to discover more. When I searched for the phrase “ideas are infinite” I came across a great article on LinkedIn. It said that we need to give away knowledge of good ideas for free to make a more creative and collaborative world. So, there are those on the right track. But, infinite ideas also have infinite layers, too.

The author also brings up how copyright and trademarks restrict free sharing of ideas. He says that what you should charge for is one on one time and little or nothing for books and the like. This concept itself is hardly a new idea. But, the idea that ideas are infinite is an alien concept to a lot of people. It’s actually been said that we are running out of ideas. You actually can’t. They’re still being discovered all of the time and many times the discoveries go unappreciated by others.

If you have something great to share and you let others share it freely that’s great. Allowing people to remix and build on it is even better. The real way to make money is providing limited and exclusive access to yourself and your time. If people see you give away great stuff then privately, people are going to assume that you are amazing. That’s true. And, it’s a model that works for some people out there already.

But I’m not here to write about making money. Although having a fair amount of cash on hand is helpful. However this leads to the idea of good investment. You should invest in knowledge like you would money. Knowledge banks, if you will. That’s essentially what libraries are in person and wikis and collaborative blogs are online. We have them, but not to the degree we should.

We should create stuff for free so that when there’s something special, there’s a huge premium for it. That sounds off to people too into capitalism. The idea of capitalism, actually, is a good one in its pure form. It’s when greed gets involved that it goes haywire.

Creativity needs to be better nurtured. It happens but not enough. We have to stop selling so much and share more. People are happy to talk about this, and oh by the way, a lot of their best stuff is now locked behind paywalls.
