Sometimes a race finishes so close that it’s both completely meaningless and means everything simultaneously. But, despite who you believe has won the day, there are then questions. The closer the result the louder the questions become. When a satisfactory answer isn’t received, some people stop asking and decide to resort to violent action.
So, even when a result seems cut and dry, the race is not yet won, until there’s some sort of a reasonable consensus that’s actually reached. In matters of sport, debates often rage on for years over close scores and run times and final counts. However, let us not forget that politics are a form of sport, granted the results of which can have far-reaching effects on our lives if we stand idly by and let them.
Now more than any point in human history, people have a choice. Why do so many people still choose to be unhappy? More than ever people are choosing to be angry. Whether or not that anger is justified isn’t so much the problem. It’s how people choose to manifest that anger.
When frustration boils over into outrage, it often breeds a mob mentality. History has taught us that what follows mobs is typically very unhappy. After a while, you wonder why massive public displays happen at all. How much of it’s a true show of force and how much of it’s sheep following a wayward shepherd. What’s allowed to happen for the sake of raising the stakes? What is inevitable when the losers of the race come in such force that it seems there is no peaceful solution?
These are questions that need answered!
