Back to the Singles Game

Clearly the doubles environment is getting pretty powerful, and we’re just not competing on the same level yet. Just as I hoped, we’re facing a basic starter team. Can Rotom Wash, Empoleon, and Dragapult steal us a victory here? I’m not even bringing a Mega, this is more of a coming out party for Empoleon. They lead Sylveon, and remember, Wash isn’t locked into a move anymore. But I’m still gonna Volt Switch to Empoleon, which has Flash Cannon. Hyper Voice doesn’t do much at all, especially after lefties. Do they eat a flash cannon or switch? They bring in Charizard, a decent move. Flash Cannon still does a lot with a crit. Charizard obviously outspeeds here, and this is a Mega X version. We click flip turn and while Outrage does a decent chunk we live easily. This allows us to switch to Dragapult… and we miss Draco Meteor… So yeah, that’s probably what loses us the game. On the plus side, we do have a shot with Rotom and Shadow Ball. The charizard is confused from fatigue on outrage, so… can we get lucky? Nope. We’re gonna lose. I just forfeit with no chance we win.

Wow, THREE LOSSES in a row today. Two in doubles to Mega Froslass teams. This is the first time I think this has happened. Horrible luck for us on that Meteor miss. I’m just going right back in. I’m just on a bad streak today. And Empoleon looks good. It’s just too slow as currently built. Anyway, they lead Dragonite this time against my Rotom. They Dragon Dance as we break their multiscale. OK Mega Meganium, it’s your time. It all comes down to what they click here. They clicked Outrage! Bye bye! Dazzling Gleam absolutely murders. And now, Ditto??? I did NOT expect that. Solar beam absolutely pulverizes it. I guess I’m gonna win because they didn’t think I’d Mega into a Fairy type? I decide against Gyarados to switch out into Rotom. I discover this is the mega for them. They dragon dance. Do we live to get off a thunder bolt? Nope. Mold Breaker Earthquake wrecks. Please Dragapult DO NOT MISS. We do live Earthquake and we DO HIT. It does a decent chunk. Meganium can take an Earthquake, so Dragapult did the damage we needed. They Dragon Dance again. I decide to use protect. They went for Waterfall? Huh? And waterfall again? Dazzling Gleam for the win? PHEW! Well, then. I got a decent matchup here. Finally a win.

I go Rotom, Meganium, and Empoleon against one of the better singles teams I’ve seen. It’s got Prim and a lot of other good mons. Fortunately I get the Rotom against Prim right away. How much will Thunderbolt do? Remember our washing machine is very specially bulky. I SHOULD live a hit here. They actually immediately go out into Scizor. Wow that did a lot! I’m actually shocked. They get off a quick attack before I volt switch out. So besides Prim, who did they bring? Remember I have Empoleon in the back. It’s Kangaskhan. We’re just gonna go Mega and Solar Beam. This is their mega, as I was thinking. They do have ice punch and they FREEZE. Oh boy. That lost me the game. Or did it? Can Empoleon do well here? Well, Earthquake KO’s, so… that lucky freeze is enough for them to win? I have to hit a Hydro Pump. We easily live Sucker Punch and eat our Sitrus Berry. Hydro Pump does 49%. They do stupidly earthquake… although I think they expected a switch. We bring back our frozen Meganium, just to switch. Let’s hope we baited ice punch. Or earthquake. They did ice punch. We go for thunderbolt. But we don’t live sucker punch. That stupid freeze! We had to risk a defrost on Meganium. AND WE DO! I go for protect to block an ice punch. Sucker punch got a crit but we live on plenty of health. But we can’t outspeed Primarina. Well, we tried. That freeze cost us the game. What a brutal day this has been. One win against FOUR LOSSES. Two in doubles, two in singles. Just not our day. And we lost to a Draco miss and that lucky freeze. To be fair, that second Ice Punch hit from the Mega is what got the Freeze…

We’re up against a team of shinies… so yeah, that’s not good. We go Dragapult, Gengar, and Dragonite. I’m not confident. Our luck has been trash today. They lead Kleavor and I go for Will-O-WIsp. Oh hey it connects. Stone Axe kinda sucks because of the stealth rocks it puts up. Hex does a ton but not nearly enough. Not a great start for us as Night Slash finishes off our first mon. Dragonite has to switch in and lose Multiscale. We mega and go for ice beam. We’re definitely not on tempo here. And Kleavor outspeeds? Oh it’s Vacuum Wave; that’s priority. It does next to nothing. Aegislash up next. I’m sure it was going for king’s shield… but we MISS FIRE BLAST.  Shadow Sneak wrecks us.  I forfeit. I’m quitting the game for today. This has been absolutely SHIT LUCK CENTRAL.

The only upside is we got a ton of achievements. Didn’t even get 5 grass-type moves off though… See you tomorrow.
