Probably one of the very best ‘field notes’ episodes of The Rest is Science so far. I totally get why Michael switched from pen to pencil. He lost entire notebooks to an exploded Rockstar drink. I used to be a mechanical pencil Stan. But I see where he’s coming from. Michael is an absolute master note taker holy crap. And I totally agree writing things down is good because even bad ideas can inspire good ones. He even uses waterproof notebooks! Crazy how this whole episode was basically about pencils and it was actually fascinating. (I’m still sticking with cheap blue BIC pens, but I have my reasons)
Couple great viewer questions too in this episode, and honestly if we figure out how to access the fourth dimension, we will unlock a lot of crazy shit. The fourth dimension question sent me down a totally different rabbit hole…

Another journal pull as I thrash and burn… 2025-11-08
“I woke up at 4am freezing and apparently Emily was having trouble sleeping too. She was thirsty and the milk fell out of the fridge somehow and scared the hell out of me. It got really dry last night but I didn’t bother to get a drink because I just wanted to go back to sleep. I didn’t have nightmares but my dreams were absolutely bizarre, and yeah, card game playing was involved… I’ve spent too much time lately in la-la land because of my crippling fatigue, fragile nerves, and even the time change hurt me more than ever this year by getting dark too early, I think my main problem is mental and emotional burnout because Emily is having the same sleep issues and she’s never like this. Just too much all at once this year. And her big plans now this weekend are to look at this…
